So today we moved in. It was super dusty and required a good clean that we have not finished yet but we moved in. We also are lacking many things, like where are we gonna put the clothes and such but we live in our sector and very close to members and the church so all is well. Our apt is sick when I fix it up I'll send pics.
THIS WEEK
So Josue passed his baptismal interview on Wednesday. Then we lost contact with him for two days (that is a big deal) oh also remember Lucho?? Funny story, we worked so hard with him to help him and he accepted fecha!! On Thursday!! For the next week!! Then we went Friday with our district leader so he could get to know him. The first thing he said is that he got baptized in 2014 in Peunte Piedra, a district in Lima..... (At this point, Erin goes on a rant in Spanish in ALL CAPS about how she asked him if he had been baptized many times and he repeatedly said no. Then, all of a sudden he began talking in Mormon jargon and she was, to say the least, a bit frustrated with him.) I was a little frustrated but I just had to laugh. Only in Peru. So turns out I almost baptized him again... woops.
So yeah then Saturday. We are all worried bc Josue won't answer then he starts to respond. We made sure he was good with the permission bc he is 15 and his dad said it was fine. He almost didn't come to his baptism so we were very worried like, hey think about it, pray, what do you think, what do you want, what does God want, what is the spirit saying. His fam is making it hard for him and he is confused but he decided in the moment to get baptized. It was 9:54. We left running to a moto. The next day he didn't answer our calls and he wasn't in his house. He did not get confirmed. Now he is very confused and his family is making it even harder for him. He is one step away and he might not take it.
I never realized how much opposition was necessary until I got here. This is a battle. This gospel brings a joy that is UNIMAGINABLE and because it does that the trials before are also things that are unimaginable. Like Josue, it can be in the moment when we start or like Lucho it can be years later when we lose the faith. So, I invite you all to mediate in where is your faith and what are you willing to battle and fight to feel this unimaginable joy. I promise that if you fight it you will win. Bc the savior of the Lord is on our side.
I love you all. I love this gospel. I love Peru.
